Ultrasound

Nil per OS or NPO is a medical instruction meaning to withhold oral food and fluids from a patient. Nothing by Mouth (most literally, “nothing through the mouth”).

Abdomen Complete: NPO 8 hrs prior.

Abdomen-Limited: SPECIFY PART ON RX (RUQ, LLQ, LIVER, ETC.) NPO 8 HRS PRIOR

ABI: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Abdominal Aorta: NPO 6-8 HRS PRIOR

Arterial-Upper Extremities: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Arterial- Lower Extremities: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Bladder: DRINK 24-32oz WATER 1 HR PRIOR (ARRIVE WITH FULL BLADDER).

Breast: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Carotids: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Echocardiograms: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Mesenteric Arterial: NPO 8 HRS PRIOR.

Portal Vein (Liver Doppler): No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Pelvic Complete (Non-Ob): FULL BLADDER DRINK 24-32 OZ 1HR PRIOR AND HOLD.

Pelvic OB: FULL BLADDER-DRINK 24oz OF WATER 1HR PRIOR AND HOLD.

Pelvic Limited: FULL BLADDER – DRINK 24-32 OZ OF WATER 1 HR PRIOR AND HOLD.

Renal Arterial:

Patient needs to discontinue any type of diuretics 24 hours prior to exam. GATEWAY MUST KNOW PRIOR TO ARRIVAL EXACTLY WHICH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED TO PATIENT.

If your blood pressure medication is an ACE INHIBITOR (listed below), you must discontinue at least 48 hours prior to appointment.

Patient can continue to take Calcium Channel Blockers such as NORVASE OR PROCARDIA.

Patient is required to provide prior imaging results on related body part. Not having prior images at the time of appointment will delay test results.

Retroperitoneal: NPO 7 HRS PRIOR, DRINK 24-32oz OF WATER 1 HOUR PRIOR AND HOLD.

US Renal/Kidney: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Scrotum: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Thyroid: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Transvaginal: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.

Venous Extremities: No prep required. Patient may eat, drink, and take all medications.
